Journal and Doodle Bible Studies John so that you may believe Kari Denker 9781535427883 Books Reviews
This is one of the VERY BEST Bible Studies I've ever used/done. I ordered it in a PDF form. It truly engages your artistic side. I've learned so much more than I ever have before in a Bible Study. If you like to journal and/or like to draw and be creative, this is the best Bible Study. I would absolutely recommend this. I love the maps. Also, even if you aren't that artistic, that's fine too as she gives some drawing ideas.
This is a great study. Whether you are new at studying or journaling you can do this study. If you are a visual learner but you are challenged when it comes to drawing, Kari has given wonderful prompts that are doable and fun. It's not just journaling but it's a study as well. You can move slowly through the gospel of John focusing on the different truths revealed in the book of John. What I have enjoyed about the study is I can be as creative as I want while bringing to my attention various repeated phrases from Christ. She doesnot spoon feed you, you have to do the studying yourself which I love. It is clear that she pours her heart out into her writing. I highly recommend this study. It is well worth your time. You won't be disappointed.
Kari Denker's method of teaching Bible study is awesome! When I discovered her style of teaching, I was nervous because I don't have a creative drawing bone in my body. The idea of doodling was scary but WOW, I'm glad I tried it. Her inclusion of maps during the Ephesions' study helped me understand the big picture. Her teaching took my study so much deeper than I ever imagined! And my doodles weren't that bad either.
If you desire a deeper relationship with God through your devotions, I strongly encourage you to try a Journal & Doodle Bible Study by Kari Denker. You can study at your own pace doing as much or as little as you want or desire. In the John study, you will follow all of the "I am" quotes by Jesus, the "Verily, verily" quotes and many other themes. Don't let the "doodle" title scare you. You don't have to be an artist to do this. Kari gives simple pictures as examples, or I sometimes look up online how to draw something. You can use stickers, fancy lettering...anything you like to make your study personable to you. I really like that there is no schedule to keep up with, as sometimes I like to take a break and read from the Psalms or another book of the Bible, and yet I can return to my Journal and Doodle Study anytime. I continually look back at what I have done as it is so enjoyable to review what I learned or remember how God spoke to me. I have done several Bible Studies of Kari's and love each one.
So...a happy accident occurred. But, being that we're Christians here, it's no "accident" at all. In my quest to find resources to enrich my Bible study and devotional time, I clicked on the Stone Soup for Five blog and subscribed after perusing the website. I received a treat by email to download the Ephesians "Journal and Doodle through the Bible" for free.
In the picture, this is my interpretation of the instructions to begin the Ephesians in an introductory manner by setting it up, having some fun and setting up the context around Ephesians before digging in. Needless to say, I'm pleasantly happy with the results because the background information ended up being more that I intended. Folks, this is ONLY the first page, with so much yummy goodness (...just thought I'd reiterate ;)
I like how the guide instructs in ways that move you to get to work without condemning yourself. I've been having time alone with God and journaling for a while and didn't know to call it; I see that "Bible journaling" and "doodling" has become popular! I'm a bit of a perfectionist so the reminder to let go and remember that this time is about God and not straight lines and such is welcome. Plus, with all good intentions, I have the tendency to not finish things like this. Reading the book of the Bible is the easy part and writing things out sort of falls by the wayside. This is a fun and guided way to stay on track.
I'm excited to receive this book and the others to help strengthen my study time. These Bible Studies are user friendly and can be done individually, with a group or even with children. I would highly recommend it to those who think the Bible is unapproachable or who have recently accepted Jesus into their lives. This is something I would also give as a gift. I hope you enjoy yours!
I bought the PDF version of this, plus the PDF of the kid's lapbook that goes along with it. I am currently working through Ephesians before I start on John, so the photo is an example of a page in the Ephesians study where I made a heading for each chapter of the book just to give you an idea of what a page might look like. The thing I like most about this study is that there are lots of ideas and examples of how to doodle through the book, but it doesn't force you to do it a certain way. If you go to Kari's website and download the free Ephesians study you will get an idea of her style, but the John study is much more detailed. It has a lot more ideas, it digs deeper into the scriptures, and it includes more doodles if you want to copy her style. Which I like to do because I am not naturally talented with drawing. This study not only has you read and then doodle, it digs into the historical context of what you are learning. You will draw maps, timelines, and read information about what is going on around the particular verses you read. It also is broken down so that you can choose to just do a few things (for those who have 15 minutes between running after their kids, work, dinner, whatever...), or go deeper and do the more detailed drawing and doodling. As someone who enjoys doodling, but who is not a natural at drawing and has no interest in making my journals works of art, these work perfectly for me. Because they are so open-ended, I really think it would also work perfectly for someone who loves to make their journals works of art too.
What a wonderful bible study! Can't wait for more.
Glad I purchased this book. I'm just starting to study the Gospel of John.
